🚨 NEW SERIES ALERT 🚨

There are so many amazing female entrepreneurs out there, and I have been HONORED to get to know so many of them. Several of them have agreed to be interviewed about their journeys and their businesses.

And today we’re kicking it off with a bang.

Meet Samantha Burmeister, copywriter and founder of Nomad Copy Agency.

I virtually met Sam when she offered free audits of one of my web pages (which, btw, if she ever offers it again…take. her. up. on. it. STAT.).

Anyway—Sam is GOOD at what she does. She’s down-to-earth. Real. And killing it.

So without further ado….

When did you start your business, and why?

I believe in having my cake and eating it, too - I wanted to travel the world full-time while working and sustaining myself financially. In 2019, I quit my corporate job and started Nomad Copy Agency… from a beach in Vietnam!

What do you feel makes your audience special?

My people have all worked so hard to get to where they are. They’re full of lived-out passion projects and ideas that support their lives - not just their lifestyles. They’re so inspiring to work with!

Did you do your site yourself? Why did you choose Squarespace?

I had someone help me at first, but it’s been mostly done in-house. As a small business owner, it’s important to be able to switch things up easily, and Squarespace is perfect for the constant pivots. I can move things around or change the copy without imploding the whole thing 🙂

If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?

With my website - I’d never have left Squarespace. We broke up for about a year, and I came running back. As they say in Friends, “We were on a break!”. But the other platform just wasn’t as easy to build on, especially for someone non-techie like me.

How long did it take you to launch your business once you decided to do it?

I kinda built my business as I went. I started with a few simple offers and followed what people wanted. So I guess you could say I’m still deciding and launching, even though now I have a very specific set of deliverables. I hope to never stop learning from my clients and staying up on trends.

How did you promote your website when you first started out? Has anything changed between now and then?

It was all through personal emails. I didn’t have an ‘audience,’ but I had mentors and friends who had businesses. I asked them 1:1 via email what they needed and did it.

I still send a lot of emails - 90% of my business comes from either email marketing or referrals. I’ve worked really hard to build a list of inspiring business owners who see the value in marketing themselves online.

Did you start your email list right when you launched? What is the most effective way you have grown your email list?

I did, but it took well over a year to grow it past 100 people - and most of them were my family then 😂.

In the last year, I’ve grown it by thousands by getting my webinars and free templates in front of the right people. I’ve used free audience sharing ideas like shared webinars, bundles, and summits, and hosting my own webinars but having my affiliate partners share my events.

What would be your entrance song? You know—the one playing as you walk on stage?

“I am” by Baby Tate and Slade Da Monsta, or “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman

What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I don’t set an alarm, but I’m usually up by about 6. I relax, make coffee, and keep all my meetings between 7-9am. This way, I have the rest of the day to be creative and active. I usually write for client projects or send out Copy On Demand responses for a few hours, take a couple of small walks, and spend the afternoons and evenings with my partner. We enjoy playing pickleball or going for runs together, and because we live near Napa, California, we do a lot of wine tasting on weekends!

Who are your favorite bloggers, podcasters, and/or coaches?

I enjoy Frenchi Ferenczi’s podcast, Strategy Snacks, and Coffee and Converse by Diane Mayor right now. They have short episodes that are super actionable, so they’re great to consume when driving somewhere local or at the gym.

I also have enjoyed Allison Hardy’s 6-Figure Secrets, and Sarah Khan’s Business Blasphemy podcasts for a bit longer content.
