Women to Watch: Heather Hoesch, Wedding Planner & Educator
If you’ve been around here or on hung out with me on Instagram, you have likely seen me mention Heather Hoesch a time or two. She’s a wedding planner in California, an educator for wedding planners, and a powerhouse of an entrepreneur.
I’ll spare you the backstory of how I know Heather (or—if you’re interested, read this post). But if you’re a wedding planner or an aspiring wedding planner, she’s one you want to have in your corner and definitely want to learn from. Planner Life Academy was hands-down one of the best investments I made when I owned my own wedding planning company.
All this to say—the Women to Watch series wouldn’t be complete without an interview from Heather.
When did you start your business and why?
In 2021 I started my own wedding planning company after many many years as a partner in a larger wedding planning firm. However, it was time to chase my own dreams and really focus on my couples.
What do you feel makes your audience special?
One of the best parts about serving couples that are engaged is what an exciting time it is in their lives. I love the excitement and joy surrounding their forever love. Then we get to celebrate that love through working together and ultimately on their special day.
Why do you use Squarespace for your website?
Squarespace has always been my web platform of choice. Easy to navigate for those less technically inclined.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
Start before you are ready. Work hard, learn from all of your mistakes and then work harder. Once you start to succeed, really create a business that makes sense for you and your life.
If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?
Honestly, I would have gotten my website up sooner! I took way too long to get things going for it and in the end, I think that was not the best decision.
How long did it take you to launch your business once you decided to do it?
It was about a year and a half in the making. I do wish I would have just jumped all in.
What would be your entrance song? You know—the one playing as you walk on stage?
Fight Song, Rachel Platten
How do you keep track of what you have to do?
I live and die by my calendar. I love time blocking to ensure I have enough time each day and week to get it all done. I also love agendas for meetings, followed by recap emails and those recaps become my check list for the next few days.
What apps, gadgets, or tools can’t you live without?
Absolutely love Rock Paper Coin, Canva and Enji.
How do you recharge or take a break from work?
Time offline and traveling with my husband keeps me sane. I think the physical act of being in a new space helps me really unwind and recharge.
